Teapot and Cutwork Embroidery

This Arthur Wood teapot is one of my favorites.  It is made in England, pattern 6759.  The teapot has a lovely pale yellow background with allover floral pattern and gold trim.

The tablecloth features cutwork embroidery that was stitched by my paternal Grandmother.  She was trained in the needle arts as a young girl being raised in Poland.  She came to Canada before the great depression and was able to supplement her family’s income during hard times by her embroidery work.

Later, she entered her work for judging at The Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto and won several awards.  She was a hard worker and although I saw her spend many hours in food preparation, I can’t ever remember seeing her doing any sewing or embroidery.  It must have been something that she practiced only in her younger years.  This tablecloth is the only piece of her work in my possession.

The embroidery is beautiful. I love the cutwork and it makes it so much more special that your Grandmother did it. What a treasure.

That is a beautiful teapot! I love the shape, the soft colors, the pattern -- everything.

And your grandmother's cutwork is beautiful and so rich with meaning! I was studying those little eyelets (I think that's what they're called) with embroidery around them. I used to collect antique needlework tools and sometimes saw the ones they used to punch the eyelets.

Beautiful post!

Oh Maureen, what a beautiful piece of embroidery and how special that it was made by your grandmother. What treasures, both the pot and the table cover.

Both are beautiful! The cutwork is particularly amazing, because I cannot imagine have the patience or skill to do that!

How lovely! I've been working on washing vintage linens today and putting them away. So fun to see your grandmother's work.

What a beautiful teapot! Do you use it or does it live in a display case? We use one of those big brown country teapots, which is practical and cheerful but of course nothing like this!

Soooo Beautiful! Amazing to remember that things like this were done by hand and NOT machines!

Such patience too! What a nice treasure to own. :)

Hello ProdigalWife. I use a sturdy Polish pottery pot and a Brown Betty pot for everyday tea. I have a very large teapot collection and use many of them (like this one) for company.

Wow, what beautiful things, thanks for sharing! The embroiery is flawless! I'm just learning to embroider myself, I hope that one day someone will look at something I made and think fondly of me too :o)
Happy Monday!

Thank you for the comments on my embroidery too! I'm just learning so it isn't the best, but I'll get there. It's all about the journey and the tea aong the way, right? Hope you don't mind, I've added your blog to my list of Blogs I Love on my page. It's a great quick way for me to pop over and see what the ParTeaLady has to say.
Thanks again!
