I Used To Paint

One of my favorite blogs Delights of the Heart mentioned pulling out some paints and it made me think about how I used to enjoy painting many years ago.  Seems like the only painting I do these days is the odd tag or scrapbook accent.

When I was attending Sheraton College, my interior design curriculum included drafting and watercolor painting.  A few years before that I took a tole painting class through the Parks & Recreation Dept of my hometown.

Next I painted a bunny basket with daffodils for Easter.  I also painted several small Christmas ornaments before losing interest and going on to other things.

I’d like to take up watercolor painting again, but I’m not likely to get back into the tole painting on wood.  I know many of you are very creative and I’d like to know if you have also tried painting.

One of my favorite artists who has combined her love of tea and painting is Sandy Lynam Clough.  She has illustrated many books and her work is featured on china, giftware, etc.   One such book is If Teacups Could Talk by Emilie Barnes.

  1. A lot of artists are able to do well just by focusing on tea themes. Painting teapots, teacups, and the like is well-loved by a lot of art admirers.

  2. Love your painting. It might be fun to try it again, even the tole. Okay, I'll settle for the watercolor.

I have done a ton of different things in my life, one of which was oil painting. I never was much good at it but I loved the smell of oils and the feel of the brush on canvas.

I hope you will pick it back up for you have talent.

  3. Latane, thank you for your kind comment. I like the smell of oils too, but just couldn't handle the clean up. Did you ever post any of your painting on your blog?

  7. My darling parTea Lady, what a lovely post. You are quite talented!! I like the bread board, but I must say the Easter basket with the daffs on it is my favourite. I did look up Sandy Lynam Clough work and love it. I have the book you mentioned, however, believe it or not I never paid attention to the artist. She does have gorgeous artwork pieces. I envy all of you talented people; as for me when it comes to painting I have two wobbly left hands. Take care darling and have a marvelous week.

    Love & Hugs

  8. I use to paint & draw. I picked up some paints last fall when my DH & I went to the beach. I tried & tried to get back in the grove, but found it looking like a kid's painting. I need to get back into it before it's a completely lost talent. I was always know as "The Artist" in school. Well they do say "If you don't use it, you lose it" So you get back to it, you absolutely have talent!

  10. I used to tole paint as well, someday I would like to start again!

I love Sandy Clough's paintings, writings, etc! We used to go to the same church. I saw her again a few years ago at a retreat she spoke at.
