American sales of chai jumped $46 million between 1999 and 2002 and I can see why. A hot cup of chai is a wonderful warming drink for fall. There are many recipes each containing some mix of milk, black tea, and spices such as cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, pepper, and ginger.
One of my favorite tea books is Tea Party by Tracy Stern.
There are 20 themed tea parties, with lots of recipes and tips on decorating, party favors, etc. I have made the chai tea with milk and honey and the granola recipes from the Chai Breakfast section many times.
It is fun to try different chai recipes, but if you don’t want to make your own there are plenty of options. You can buy chai spice loose tea and tea bags from companies such as Adagio, or premixed chai in cartons from companies like Oregon Chai.
Naturally, I am wanting a cup of chai after reading this post! And thanks for the review. That book is one I don't own, so I was waiting to hear a positive review from a friend!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of Chai tea until meeting Angela, and the forst time I tried it did not like it at all. Then I found out to add sugar and cream with it and it truly made a delicious difference

Chai is good, but the best part about it is you don't really have to add milk. You can use soymilk or get a mix that is meant to be made only with regular water. Remember, the milk adds unwanted fat and calories. --Teaternity
ReplyDeleteI just finished a cup of afternoon chai on a very rainy day. I'm ready to have a second cup as I start a batch of chocolate chip cookies to share with my napping flu-suffering 15 year old baby!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll have to look for that book too! :)
